Erin O'Brien
Hello, my name is Erin O’Brien. I am a missionary just like all of you. It is my heart to reach the lost and preach the good news of Christ. I have been a Christian for almost six years now. I got saved in March of 2006. Before that time I had never heard the simplicity of the gospel; I believe that is why it is so strong on my heart to share this amazing truth with others.
A couple months after I got saved my sister-in-law, Tanya, learned she had a brain tumor. Even as a young believer I realized that there was nothing that I could say or do to help her in her situation. I understood that the source of all power was in Jesus and the Bible. It was that circumstance that jump started my irresistible desire to study God’s word, and be used by Him.
As a five month old believer, I went to Word of Life which is a Bible school in Schroon Lake, NY. There I studied and got a wonderful foundation in Bible truth. Next, God called me to teach fourth grade in Florida at a private Christian school. After two years, God opened the doors for me to teach sixth grade in Guadalajara, Mexico. This was an amazing opportunity for me because I worked with people from approximately twenty-five different denominations. I made excellent friends with God fearing girls who challenged me in my beliefs. I grew immensely in my faith and for the first time had a solid understanding and relationship with the Holy Spirit.
After two years of teaching in Mexico, the Lord confirmed that the season was ending and something new was coming. One of my friends had moved down to Dallas to join John G. Lake Ministries. I began speaking with him a lot and started to see Biblical truth that I had somehow missed before. I decided to go to Dallas so I could continue to grow in what I know to be solid truth. At the JGLM annual conference in September, God was really challenging me. I’ve always known that I am called to international missions, and I’ve been obedient to His gentle leading over these past five years. However, at the conference, I knew it was time to say yes to Him and begin yet another step in my calling to go out into the whole world and preach the gospel. And that next step is in India!
My trip begins this January. I will fly into Chennai first and get my first exposure to India with a firmly established ministry, Metro Missions. After a couple of weeks I will travel to Andhra Pradesh where I will spend most of my time serving in a few smaller villages. As I have been in touch with Christians over there, I have learned more about the many difficult situations the Indian’s face. Many people don’t have food to eat each day, or a shelter to stay in, and there are others who are literally naked in the streets. I ask you to join me in prayer over these people who are dear to Christ’s heart.
I have been asked to help out in the villages and share my faith. I will have many opportunities to pray for the sick and see God work. I am certain several will come to a saving knowledge of the Lord when His loving power is displayed. I will also work with the orphans and widows. I will lead a small group in discipleship a few times each week. It is also a desire of the pastors to do evangelistic crusade meetings in different districts. We all are trusting the Lord for the provisions needed to do these crusades.
